The zinc-iron process occurs in the same way as traditional zinc-plating; with the difference being that the solution consists of small quantities of iron. This results in a ferro alloyed zinc layer that considerably improves the corrosion protection.
The high corrosion protection makes the method suitable for articles that are intended for outdoor use, and for the automotive industry.
Zinc-iron chromating has a better resistance against temperatures compared to conventional zinc-plated articles.
